Assessment
InTASC Standard #6 Assessment: The teacher understands and uses multiple methods of assessment to engage learners in their own growth, to monitor student progress, and to guide the teacher's and learner's decision making.
Introduction
Assessments are an integral part of the learning process for both teachers and students. Assessments are used so teachers are able to see where students are in the learning process and to modify and differentiate instruction when needed. Over the last two and a half years, I have used assessments in a variety of ways to inform instruction in my classrooms, from driving differentiated reading instruction to a mid-year grade-level switch that required quick and immediate assessment to determine where students were in order to be successful in the second semester. I have included in the Assessment section of my Portfolio the different kinds of assessments that I use in my classroom at Ingenuity Prep. While these are only a few of the different kinds of assessments I use, it is important to note that these are some of the assessments that drive instruction in my classroom overall.

Conclusion
Assessment at Ingenuity Prep Public Charter School is used to ensure that teachers have an accurate picture of where students are in the classroom. I use different assessment types, including formative and summative assessments, to ensure that I am actively monitoring student progress and adjusting as needed for my students to ensure that growth occurs. Assessment is a way that we communicate- students communicate what they know and need with the assessment, and I can use that data to ensure that students are meeting standards. There are several ways that I collect data to ensure growth, and there are also several different ways in which we involve students in the process of monitoring their own data to engage and invest students in their growth. Data through assessment is a way that I can communicate student success and need with parents, and continuous progress monitoring ensures that student growth is happening in the classroom.
