2013-2017
I studied at Davidson College and earned my BA in Political Science with a Minor degree in Dance in 2017. In 2015, I studied abroad in Geneva, Switzerland with the School for International Training (SIT) in the International Relations and Multilateral Diplomacy Program. After returning to the states, I began volunteering in lower elementary classrooms and began taking education classes at Davidson. After graduation, I was accepted into the 2017 Teach for America Mississippi (now called Greater Delta) Corps.
2017-2019
During the summer of 2017, I completed Delta Institute (an eight-week intensive teacher training program) in Cleveland, MS and taught fifth grade math in summer school at Quitman County Middle School in Marks, MS. I accepted a position teaching third grade ELA at Leland Elementary School (now called Edna M. Scott Elementary School) in Leland, MS. I taught in Leland School District for two years, moving to Kindergarten for one semester and second grade for the 2018-2019 school year. In 2018, I began working on my Masters of Science in Education through Johns Hopkins University. I will graduate in May of 2020.
2019-2020
After moving to Washington, D.C. in August, I started teaching Kindergarten Literacy at Ingenuity Prep Public Charter School for the first semester of the 2019-2020 school year. I ran the Student Arts Publication Club at Ingenuity Prep, where third through sixth graders work on publishing student art from our school to an online platform. In December, I transitioned to teaching Fourth Grade English Language Arts at Bridges Public Charter School in Washington, D.C. for the remainder of the 2019-2020 school year. In D.C., Fourth Grade is a PARCC (The Partnership for Assessment of Readiness of College and Careers) tested year. Due to COVID 19, I transitioned online with my Fourth Graders for the remainder of the 2019-2020 school year.
2020-2021
In the fall of 2020, I transitioned to a new position at Bridges Public Charter School. I began working as an Early Childhood and Elementary Resource Teacher in the Special Education Department. I worked with students on my caseload on their IEP goals. Due to COVID 19, most of the instruction was held via Zoom. In May 2021, we we were able to return to the building to complete eighteen days of in-person instruction.
2021-2022
In the fall of 2021, I transitioned to another position at Bridges Public Charter School. I was asked to return to upper-elementary and lead the Fifth Grade class in ELA, Science, and Social Studies. We were able to begin the 2021-2022 school year in person, but have had to transition to online instruction three times due to quarantine protocol. In May 2022, my students will take the PARCC assessments for the first time.
